Website performance

Give your website a performance tune-up.

A slow website is frustrating for visitors, awkward for editors and can undermine the work you are doing elsewhere on search and conversion.

We can review common WordPress performance issues and make practical improvements without pretending every speed score can be fixed with one magic plugin.

We do not need to have built or hosted your website to help.

What we can improve

Start with the things that usually make the biggest difference.

  • Mini green box TV character with arms, legs and red sneakers jumping into the air over the top of its red skateboard.
    Image optimisation

Reduce unnecessarily large image files while keeping the site looking sharp.

  • Green laptop character with arms driving a rocket style shaped space future motor vehicle that is shooting flames from its engine.
    Caching

Review page and browser caching and make sure the configuration suits the website.

  • Digital screen with multicoloured pie chart, the screen is accessorised with monster truck style fins and big grippy wheels and front headlights.
    Plugin review

Identify unnecessary, duplicated or particularly heavy plugins that may be slowing the site down.

  • A hand holding onto a document with a bullet point list of information underneath a big red circle with a white pound symbol inside.
    File optimisation

Minify or reduce front-end files where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

  • A machine made up of different cogs, buttons and sliding controls hooked up to a blue and green server box and a red desktop mouse.
    CDN & hosting

Review whether the hosting setup or content delivery could be improved.

  • Red mug branded with white Upkeep logo, with steam floating out of the top. A small digital desktop screen leaning against the side of the mug.
    Database & general housekeeping

Tidy common WordPress overhead where it is safe and useful.

What we will not promise

Performance is affected by the whole website.

Themes, page builders, third-party scripts, hosting, ecommerce and custom code all affect performance. We will explain what is realistically achievable before promising a particular score or result.

SEO foundations

Performance is one part of a healthy site.

Where useful, we can also check page titles, metadata, heading structure, image handling and Search Console setup so the technical foundations are working together.

Our methodical approach

Speak to real, human experts
using a simple, reassuring process

Isometric illustration of a connected digital process featuring servers, a fishbowl, conveyor tracks, interface panels, and code controls.
  1. Green portrait tablet with profile icon and information boxes, a loud speaker adjacent is projecting loud noise.
    Tell us what's happened

Use our simple secure intake to outline the issue, change or project you need help with. Include the website address and anything useful for us to know.

  2. A red, yellow and cream blimp floating in the sky carrying a traffic light system displayed on a desktop. With two clouds floating around.
    We review and explain

We gather the access we need, review the website and explain the sensible options in plain English.

  3. A hand holding onto a document with a bullet point list of information underneath a big red circle with a white pound symbol inside.
    Provide a clear cost

Once we understand what is needed, we confirm the recommended work and expected cost. Nothing substantial begins without your approval.

  4. Mini green box TV character with arms, legs and red sneakers jumping into the air over the top of its red skateboard.
    We get to work

We complete the agreed work, test what we have changed and let you know when everything is ready for review.

Why choose Upkeep?

Why use Upkeep?

  • Arm with large muscular bicep clutching a green keyboard, holding it up in the air.
    Real human expertise

You will speak to real UK based people who understand WordPress. Never a chatbot or anonymous call centre. Your issue is reviewed by the technical team responsible for helping resolve it.

  • Red mug branded with white Upkeep logo, with steam floating out of the top. A small digital desktop screen leaning against the side of the mug.
    Plain-English answers

We will explain what has happened, why it matters and what we recommend doing next without hiding behind jargon.

  • A green and blue hot air balloon, with a red label across the balloon labelled 'WWW' in big white letters.
    Existing websites welcome

We do not need to have designed, built or hosted your website. We are happy to investigate inherited, ageing and imperfect WordPress setups. No sales, no pressure.

  • Large crane lifting a yellow lego brick, stacking different multicoloured lego shaped blocks together in a pyramid style.
    Repair before replacement

We will not recommend a rebuild when a sensible repair will do. Where continued repair is no longer safe or economical, we will explain the alternatives honestly.
